Models: Alena Renay & Side B Modeling
Red Dress / Suit: Claude Michelle Sanon
From my shoot with model Alena Renay and Dan Minicucci Photography. One of the main inspirations I pulled from when collaborating on this shoot was the legendary David Bowie, and his ability to look comfortable in whatever makeup/clothing he was sporting. Be it a suit or heels, the man had confidence in who he was, an androgynous beauty, and amazing talent that inspired so many (myself included) to break away from the "norm". He will be greatly missed (RIP Man who fell to earth).
I think Alena perfectly fit the description of androgyny during this shoot, both feminine and masculine in her posing and expression. I'm so pleased she was able to be a part of this project.
This shoot challenged me to break from the traditional "feminine" look I usually display, something I didn't think would be a challenge until I got in front of the camera. I tend to think I lean towards a more masculine frame with a lack of curves and more defined arms and legs. I am so used to working harder to appear extremely feminine because of my body type, that even simple things like how I hold my hands had to be rethought when posing.
I look forward to more collaborations that challenge me like this one did!
