“I am my own experiment. I am my own work of art.” – Madonna
As much as I LOVE playing dress up, and experimenting with new hairstyles or outfits, there are days (typically mornings to be exact) where I want to try a different look, but really don't feel like putting hours of effort in.
Like this morning for example.
Typically, my hair is very straight, and very unimpressive to me. Since I am in the process of growing it out, it has become more obviously straight, and unimpressive after wearing down for more then a day. I was the same way growing my hair out during high school. By the end of the day it wasn't unusual for my hair to have been braided at least twice, in a ponytail once, and clipped up into a "screw-it-all-I-don't-care-anymore" messy bun multiple times.
I have always loved the simple but chic look of long wavy/curly hair, and it is one of the hardest for me to accomplish. So when I found a tutorial for "beach waves" on tumblr that looked simple enough for me to do when I wake up at 6am, I figured I'd have nothing to lose.
They may not be the full bodied waves or curls I so desire, but for a total of 3 minutes of effort (and the added bonus of feeling like a mad scientist for 2 of those minutes), it's something new and different, and I've never felt so accomplished for such little effort.
All you need is:
- A spray bottle
- 1 cup of warm water
- 1 TBSP of sea salt
- 1 Tsp hair gel
- 1 Tsp coconut oil
Put all ingredients in spray bottle and shake. Spray generously. Let dry. Look fabulous.
This experiment was a subtle reminder that I should try new things more often; I tend to forget how much fun it can be to do something different.
Have you ever tried this style before? If you have, do you feel immediately more fabulous after, or is that just me?
