This is a good Halloween costume for the pure simplicity it takes to put it together. Its nice (but still comfortable) enough to wear to work, so the idea is perfect for a work party if you don't want to go over the top on makeup and costumes. I bought this maxi dress on sale at the end of the summer season, and loved the color of it. The smaller details like the rope braiding of the neckline are what really makes it perfect for this look though.
I attempted to add texture to my hair by braiding it the night before and sleeping in it, but it didn't quite look how I wanted. Someday I'll figure out a good way of curling my hair that will actually stay in.
Another important factor of this look is the use of subtle accesssories for detail. I typically try to go with either a gold or silver theme, so in the close ups you can see I went with a silver headband, necklace, bangles, and a pair of wooden earrings earrings. I also tried a gold look, but the necklace and earrings were so delicate that my camera (not actually a camera...) didn't do them justice. I feel a good pair of bold earrings and some bangles are sufficient to complete the look of a Lady of Ancient Greece.
I went with neutral tones for my makeup- brown and gold eyeshadow, black liner, and a light brown/pink lip. This is one of those costumes that you can play up or down depending on your mood (or go from a day look to a night look- from work to your party for example!). Go with more delicate accessories and neautral makeup for the day, and add a smoky eye, some bangles or statement earrings, and a shawl for night time. Bonus if your dress is long like mine and you can wear whatever you want on your feet- or if you own sandals, you can wear those to finish the look from head to toe (in case you're wondering, I don't own any sandals...I may have been wearing boots with this to try and gain some height too)!
