One of the things I find very interesting in movies or stories are themes of dueling personalities-moral conflicts, right and wrong, dark and light, that sort of contrast. I think one of the more popular Halloween costumes that play on this is either a devil, or an angel.
I decided I wanted to combine both.
Aside from just my interest in the contrast of thoughts and actions, and wanting to express it in a visual way as a costume...I also bought two sets of contacts and reeeeeally wanted to play with them (always a legit excuse is my book).
For my "light side", I went with a more natural look using brown eyeshadow and a brown liner, light eyebrows, and just a little mascara. I also added a light pink blush and lipgloss.
For my "dark side", I used a combination of red, gray, and black eyeshadow, black eyeliner and dark eyebrows, and a dark pink blush. I did a deep red lip with a little black lipstick and blended it out.
I created a "dress" out of two scarves, pinned together at the center and tied in the back. I'd probably want to actually sew the scarves together for durability through the night if I wore this out for my costume. I also wore red and black earrings on one side, and white on the other (subtle detail queen here). You could probably make a necklace out of two different colored fabrics too if you wanted to add more accessories, or use one black and one white glove.
I also decided to clip one horn in, just to add a bit of sparkle (literally, my right side was covered in glitter from it later), and more diversity between the two sides of my hair.
Sadly, I couldn't find a wig that was two different colors, but I think that using one red and one blue contact adds something unique to this look! Also, this look doesn't have to be done with just black and white to look good- you could use any contrasting colors to get the idea across (these just happen to be the only contrasting colors I have of similar style items in my closet right now).
I like this idea as well because its not your typical costume look. Its a combination of two ideas onto one person. It's also just fun to make a comparison of polar opposite ideas right next to each other. And its good to have fun when creating your costume.
Only a few more posts until the big day! I have a special surprise planned for my next post, so make sure to stay tuned!
Which look did you like best, the dark or light side?
