I love the pin up look- hair, makeup, clothes, the whole shebang. But if you've ever looked into doing it yourself, you've probably noticed a lot of the amazing looks take quite a bit of time-or at least, back in the day they did (I mean, have you seen those perfect curls and pinned hairstyles?). When I have some time to play with my makeup, I love doing a full blown look (sadly attempted victory rolls included), but for the most part, I'm running out the door at random hours doing three different things at once. So I simplified my retro/pin up look and thought I'd share it!
- Foundation (sometimes I nix the foundation if my skin is feeling sensitive or dry)
- Brow pencil (Some people have amazing eyebrows and don't need to do anything to them! I however, have two different shaped/sized eyebrows that are on the thin side, so I like to add a little pizzazz to them)
- Black Eyeliner
- Red lipstick/or lip gloss
I like to do a cat eye with my liner in combination with a few coats of mascara and a red lip. It's a simple look, but the color compliments the look so nicely and makes everything else really pop.
Because this is a simpler look, I'll make a headband out of a scarf and pull my hair back for a Rosie the Riveter inspired do that keeps the whole thing looking retro.
It looks more vintage if you can add a little victory roll in front of the headband, but again, me and my time restraints (yes yes, I know, I have all of the excuses!).
Hopefully in the near future, I can plan out a day to practice my retro hairstyles and show them off (practice would be the key word before they become visible to anyone but the bathroom mirror).
Do you have any go-to looks that make you feel just a bit more fancy on a normal day?
