If you've been following my Instagram posts this month, you'll know that I've been doing a bit of a challenge for myself - "31 Days of Halloween" accents. Typically, I post a Halloween inspired accent or accessory I've worn each day of October. During this process, I've noticed I own a lot of skull accessories...like...a lot, or at least more than I thought I owned.
It inspired me to go a bit further and try out one of my favorite Halloween makeup looks from the ever inspiring/life-ruing Pinterest: Skeletal makeup.
I had a bit of practice with this idea last year when I did a Day of the Dead look, which pulls from a similar idea for the look, accenting your own facial bone/skull structure.
I even tried to go as far as to apply makeup to my body, but that didn't turn out quite how I was hoping (it also doesn't help when you're applying makeup in a room that's lacking on a strong light source at 11pm).
Never-the-less, the skull based look turned out well, and I'm pleased to share it as one of those last-minute Halloween looks anyone can create if they don't have a costume, but do own some black eyeshadow or eyeliner/face paint, and are willing to spend a few minutes outlining and shading their face.
It's probably wise to warn those around you if you decide to do this late at night if it's NOT Halloween yet, just so you don't scare the life out of them when you walk into a semi-dark room at midnight (...or you could really have fun with it and tell no one before you jump into a room...).
This is one of those look that you could go all out for and paint your entire body if you want to, or make it easy and wear whatever you want (or don't want...though you may have to put your arms down at some point...hence the reason in creating a makeshift top to wear halfway through this shoot), just focusing on the facial makeup.
Plenty of options!
I know my last makeup based costume was pretty extreme when it came to the amount of detail and time to create it - how do you guys feel about the more minimal makeup look in comparison?
Keep checking in for more costume ideas each week!
Only 15 days until Halloween!!!
