This was a pretty straightforward project - glue Popsicle sticks together to create a snowflake shape as you so desire (because I'm a child and really enjoy popsicle stick crafts...though I didn't get to eat popsicles to obtain these popsicle sticks...bummer).
The snowflakes in the tutorial I was following were enormous, and I happened to be using the leftover items I had in my craft bin, meaning I had to go for a less involved snowflake style. The hardest part was laying out my idea to see how it would look before spending the time gluing it in place (the ends of 8 Popsicle sticks don't balance that well on top of each other at varying angles until glued in place).
Once I stuck with a design and hot glued them together, it was pretty smooth sailing. I let it dry for a few hours before deciding to spray paint it for a bit more pizzazz. I ended up leaving one side unpainted as a reminder of which one to face forward.
I'd consider this one a success. While it may not be the most stunning decoration I've ever made, it was easy, and a cute idea that really anyone can put together.
Next on my decor list:
So my candle itself isn't made of pine cone like the pin I folowed - but I did decorate the votive the candle sits in. While I'm very pleased with how it turned out, it was literally a painful experience. You don't really think about how much time pulling off each piece of bark will take, or how raw your fingertips will feel after struggling with the first 10. I'm convinced there is a splinter still hidden under my nail...
It also gets a bit messy when you're hot gluing with any project, but particularly with this one I noticed the residual glue that would connect random items together with spider web like strands, causing pieces of pine cone I had laid out on my desk to begin hovering in mid air as I would move the glue gun (always exciting to see things float in your peripheral vision).
Though I'd also add this to the success list, I will say that it was time consuming, and messy (broken pine cone splinters and random dust piles seemed to just coat my desk), but very pretty once completed.
So far so good...what do you guys think?
