For this year's month of masquerades, the last costume I revealed, and one of my favorites, was my version of the "Black Swan", based off the movie starring Natalie Portman. Not only did I recreate her makeup look, I even wore creepy red contacts and glued feathers and "jewels" to a leotard for her costume.
Photographer and friend Zack (of Zachary Stone Photography) contacted me about the costume after I posted pictures, and to my excitement, suggested we do a location shoot using it. I love when I have the opportunity to use something I've made more than once!
I contacted Tanya Amalfitano to collaborate on the project and do my hair and makeup for the shoot. We decided to shoot in Benson Park, which has some great features and trails to walk on.
The downside of it now being December is that even when it doesn't look cold out because there is no snow, it's still cold. Granted, it wasn't as cold as it could have been, but I did spend a few minutes between takes standing in the sun to warm up. Of course, it may have been that I was in a leotard and tutu that was making me so cold...
Cold aside, we had a great time shooting! Zack even managed to create a hands-free stand for our reflector during the shoot (genius!) which I will have to keep in mind for any of my future location shoots...
And of course, one of my favorite parts, and what is becoming a ritual in our shoot, was the chance to hang out when we were done, grab a bite to eat and a cup of coffee and just chat about life while we warmed up.
I've already seen some of the image from our shoot and they're stunning (as per usual when Zack is involved in a project)! Make sure to keep an eye out in the gallery!
Thanks again Zack and Tanya!
