Doesn't matter if you're single or with someone, sometimes you just don’t feel like going out into the abyss of awkward first-timers, and the couples who check their phone every five minutes to see if the babysitter has quit yet, while eating an overpriced meal cut into heart shapes (I’m not cynical, I swear- I even made heart shaped food already this week) for a "Memorable Valentines Day".
I think that a lot of times, it’s just easier and less stressful to do a low-key night in (especially if you’re expecting ANOTHER snowstorm on Valentine’s Day), whether it’s with a significant other, friends, or your favorite entertainer, Netflix.
And there is nothing saying you can't still get dressed up for it (which is half the fun if you ask me)! My favorite idea for a night in would be dinner and a movie (shoes optional).
Maybe you do this all the time already - get home from work, grab some leftovers and jump on the couch to continue the latest marathon you’re obsessing over... but instead of the usual routine, why not try something a little different...
Maybe have dinner at the table and light a candle or two (non-scented so it doesn't mix with the taste of your food). Instead of turning the movie on while you eat, try some music in the background, or even (dare I say it), just enjoy the company of the person you’re with (or your own company). *Bonus: you're not on a time crunch or being rushed so someone else can be sat at your table when you eat at home (...unless you have a dog who is really interested in your meal...because he may try to sit at your table...).
AFTER dinner, settle down on the couch to watch whatever your little heart pleases, or whatever you've valiantly played rock, scissor, paper for (At this point, pants may be optional...at the very least belts are. I know if I was wearing a dress, I'd be hoping it was a stretchy material after eating.)!
Here are a few movie suggestions if you’re stumped on what to view:
Imagine Me and You
Robin Hood: Men in Tights
Stranger Than Fiction
Indiana Jones (I prefer the Last Crusade)
Blade (...1-3 ...make it an all-nighter)
Silence of the Lambs
Let the Right One In
Family Movie (aka- secretly most people's favorite):
Lars and the Real Girl
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Those are just a few movie ideas to get you started, seeing as everyone has their own personal favorites for date night movies (Maybe it’s Date Night, the movie?)!
Looks like I’ll have to wait and see what kind of weekend I’ll be having with this snowstorm talk (again)...I may be watching more than one of these...
...I’m gonna need more popcorn!
