If you've ever been on Pinterest (or basically any website in general at this point), you've probably seen all of the different ideas created around specific Disney characters. They mostly involve the Disney Princesses, whether it's era or specific artist inspired work, costume designs, photography, stories twisted and retold, or any of the other numerous ideas people share involving their favorite childhood memories.
I'm not exempt from this great multitude seeing as I did my final, graduating project in college based on Disney princesses (which included 3x4 foot posters I designed, tri-fold pamphlets, calendars, a ton of research and analyzing of each movie I designed from, and all sorts of other fun stuff ) (...if you ask nicely, I may even share my project in a future post...).
I've always had a bit of a love-hate relationship with the characters and Disney in general, but no matter the annoyances felt by a multitude of contributing factors, there is still a part of me that finds so much inspiration from these characters and stories. Call it the nostalgia of childhood and wanting to feel that connection, call it years of pent up anger caused by unrealistic hair expectations , whenever I feel in a creative rut, watching these films and tapping into whatever emotion they evoke at that moment in time is a sure way to get my thoughts going again.
That being said, I haven't had a lack of ideas as of late, just a lack of time to create them in the way I see them in my head. Perfectionist traits be damned, I don't like to share my work until it's at a level I feel proud of. While browsing for wardrobe ideas, I came up with this idea ("came up with"...hah...again, go on Pinterest sometime and you'll see how unoriginal this general idea is) of creating a modern wardrobe for each of my beloved /despised characters. (Don't even get me started on which ones should technically be considered Princesses, because I have looked way too far into all of this and there is potential for rants...but I digress...).
I have included some of my personal ideas for how various characters would look in our modern fashion culture (FYI, Polyvore has become dangerous for me to be on after discovering the ability to create entire wardrobe looks. You've been warned...):
I'll be honest, I had a lot of fun putting these together. There may be more of these in the future based off other characters, movies, books or games (only time will tell).
Did you find these styles/outfits fitting for the characters?
