Even just in the past month, I had picked out my initial 30 items, and within the few weeks of starting, I went through those items and started trading things out and getting rid of more clothes. I finally feel like I'm getting to the point where I look in my closet and like everything in there (or at least I'm starting to learn more of what I like and get rid of unwanted things faster).
Of course that doesn't mean I don't still have my favorite outfits (especially for Summer), but I'm starting to get a better idea of what I feel my style is (and what it is NOT as well).
I will say that I had the full 30 items when this project started, but within a month, I ended up getting rid of a ton of things, or moving them to my "modeling wardrobe". I've found it's easier to do that when I realize a month in that I've only worn something once, and know I won't wear it everyday (only for special occasions or a specifically styled shoot), but I don't have to feel like I'm getting rid of them, knowing I can use them for future projects.
Another thing that has helped me pare down my wardrobe drastically is creating a Pinterest board for each season. It may sound silly, but pulling together specific looks for inspiration and basing my closet off only those looks that I love, helps me keep random items that may not go well together out.
The following are the items I have in my summer wardrobe:
- 6 sleeveless tops
- 2 dresses
- 2 pants
- 2 shorts
- 2 skirts
- 2 button up shirts
- 1 jean short
- 1 t-shirt
- 1 bolero
- 1 light sweater
- 1 casual suit jacket
- 1 sweatshirt
That's only 22 items!
Also on this list, but not included in the pictures, is a pair of ripped up jean shorts that I wear when I'm working on projects or running around outside (so not something I wear everywhere) and a sweatshirt used in the same way.
I didn't take pictures of them, but I did wear about three styles of shoes day to day:
- peep toe heels
I switched back and forth between a pointed toe and rounded toe flat on a daily basis while at work because after a while, my toes would pinch from the pointed shoes, but my rounded flats are on their way out, so there is little to no support from them (it might be time for a flat that combines the best features of both without any of the cons...).
Or I'd just go barefoot when at all possible...because Summer!
With Fall here (when did that happen?!), I have a feeling I may be adding more into my wardrobe than I did for Summer, especially with all the layering I'll likely be doing. I'm sure a good amount of the items from this edition will find their way into my outfits over the next few months (with the addition of some scarves and sweaters of course!).
It's only been Fall for a day, but I've already had to dig out my sweater and boots from the attic with the drastic temperature change from 90s to 60s.
...you know what that means...
Prepare yourselves for Fall posts and recipes! I'm in my element again!
Happy Autumn everyone!
(PS: I know the quality of my wardrobe images isn't as good in this post as it has been in the past - I'm still figuring out lighting techniques in my new home, and it hasn't been going so well. Hopefully I'll get my hands on some better lights in the near future though!)
