I know I say this every month, but I’m shocked that it’s already September! August flew by this year, between the photoshoots and multiple adventures I went on. With the end of August comes the end of Summer, and beginning of Autumn. While Autumn is my favorite season …...we still have a few weeks before that happens!
So here are a few things to do over the next two or so weeks to make the most of a waning summer:
- Go for a dip
Haven’t had a chance to go swimming this summer? Do it now while you can still enjoy these warm days! Find a lake or pond to dive into, head to the ocean and wiggle your toes in the wet sand, or make whirlpools in your friends pool like you did when you were kids.
- Have a frozen treat
One of the best things about those too-warm summer days is cooling off with your favorite frozen treat. Whether it’s ice cream, freezer pops, or any number of cold or frozen adult beverages, nothing measures up to kicking back with something cold in your hand as you lounge in the sunlight.
- Sit around a fire
There is something unparalleled to sitting around a fire with friends. While I love curling up by a fire inside to take the edge off a cold winter night, being outside, looking at the stars, and listening to the sound of sparks popping while the flames crackle (and having a s'more in your hand doesn't hurt either) is one of those little joys that Summer holds.
- Revisit your childhood
Remember chasing fireflies around the backyard as a kid, and catching them in a jar so you can watch them glow? Forget any of the embarrassment you think you’ll feel as you chase after bugs as an adult, and just enjoy the wonder that is nature.
- Look up
Speaking of wondrous nature, when is the last time you took 5 minutes to look at the sky? Whether it’s finding shapes in the clouds or connecting stars and finding constellations, on a warm summer day or clear summer night, there’s nothing like laying in the grass and looking out into the sky to remind yourself that there is so much more to life than the little annoyances we let get to us.
- Go for a drive
There’s nothing like driving around with the windows down in Summer. Whether you’re jamming out to some tunes, or listening to nothing but the wind, a destination in mind or just going for a cruise, you never know what you might discover during your travels.
- Be a Tourist
Have you ever tried any of the tourist attractions for your town/state? If not, make a day of it! Pick an event to go to or a site to visit, try a suggested restaurant, and snap some selfies like you've never been to that cafe on the corner of main street before.
- Try something you’ve never tried before!
Never attempted a cartwheel? Now’s the perfect time to make yourself dizzy trying! Never eaten jalapeno poppers? Get yourself down to the nearest restaurant (go at happy hour-they might be discounted) and prepare for spicy deliciousness! Never been to Alaska? Purchase a good coat and jump on that plane before you can question yourself! You can go big or small, if it's a new experience for you, go for it!
No more excuses - if you want to take advantage of these next few days of summer, get out there and do at least one (or all!) of these things!
What's one thing you want to do before Summer ends? Even if it's as simple as laying outside to soak up some sun, it still counts!
