If you’ve been following the news the last few days, you may have heard that the Supreme Court ruled Same-Sex marriage a right Nationwide.
There are plenty of people with opinions about this ruling. Some in favor of it, and some not in favor. Many events have led up to this point, but each of those has taken the time to happen, and each did not happen without a struggle. I will admit, I never expected to see this ruling happen so soon in my lifetime.
That being said, I am not one to push my opinion on others as I feel opinions are what make us all unique individuals. I tend to distance myself from conflict for a reason. But speaking on a personal level, and with no intention of trying to “ruffle anyone’s feathers”, this ruling is very close to my heart.
Love is love.
No one deserves to live in fear of being who they are. No one should fear sharing the love another person. No one deserves to be ashamed of their love.
That’s what pride is about to me. Not just the courage it takes to love another human being, but the courage it takes to love yourself.
I’m not going to stand on my rooftop throwing rainbow confetti at the strangers below, telling them that they WILL accept me. But I will express myself as I always have, through this blog, through my creative side, and with pride.
All that being said, I WILL applaud individuals who do express themselves boisterously and with fanfare. Because EVERYONE deserves to be proud of who they are.
No matter your sexuality, gender, religion, political views, personal preferences, and everything in-between, be proud of the person you are. Share in the love that connects us. When you do disagree with something, do it respectfully. Others should be entitled to live their life to the fullest. Just like you.
I say all of this on behalf of myself, and no one else.
I am proud of who I am, and who I love, and will not be ashamed of it.
