In late July 2016, I shot a “Downtown” concept with Black Axe Photography. It was a surprising challenge given I’d become accustomed to more avant-garde concepts. Shooting in the clothes that I literally arrived from work in was out of the norm for me. Challenges are necessary if we want to improve, so I put my best foot forward and strutted Main Street.
Besides being memorable as one of the few “lifestyle” concepts I’ve had the opportunity to shoot, there were other notable moments during our evening out and about.
Pokemon Go
This newly released game has been quite a hit across the nation. What I didn’t realize was how many people in such a small area would all play Pokemon Go at the same time. The game gives you better chances of leveling up in busier areas. So it makes sense that Downtown Nashua is a hot spot compared to smaller towns nearby.
Rubbernecking
We watched 8 dump trucks stop at a light and not notice when it turned green because all of the drivers were too busy looking at us. Because the dump trucks were so large, the drivers behind them couldn’t see that the light had cycled through. Probably in their best interest.
Piano Woman
We saw a tiny piano on the corner of a street, so I played a few notes on it. A friend of mine informed me that it’s part of Nashua’s “Positive Street Art” program, which is also responsible for the dragons and other cool sculptures around Main Street (To see more, follow this link! http://www.positivestreetart.org/ ). I’m in no way a pianist, but it was still fun to take a few minutes and play a (very) poor rendition of “Chopsticks”.
We finished our shoot just as the sun finished setting, which was perfect timing as my shoes were killing me by this point. A big thank you to Black Axe Photography for challenging me to try something different for my portfolio!
Hard to believe that Summer is fading to an end, especially when it’s 94 degrees as I type this. Soon enough, the “Autumn” posts will begin… and I can’t wait!
