One of my favorite things about working with Dan is the creativity brought to each shoot. While each of us will bring outfits or items to work with, we usually end up creating something new as well. I was ecstatic to have a chance to revisit the couture Marie Antoinette dress made by Amanda Moisan.
Spare materials
Even with that amazing dress as our inspiration, a new dress was created mid-shoot. The blue dress was essentially made on location with a combination of safety pins and binder clips. Amazing what one person can do with enough creativity and a few yards of fabric when they set their mind to it!
The red dress returns
After our two looks were shot out in the “wintry mix”, my stamina was pretty low. I was beyond ready to curl up in front of a heater with a blanket. By this point I’d made up my mind that we were done for the day. But on the way back to my car, both Dan and I saw this beautiful, untouched field of snow. It was engulfed by fog, with just a faint gray outline of trees.
I’ve learned when nature presents itself, the opportunity is too good to pass up. So, I got dressed over my clothes in the front seat of the truck and ran into the field before the fog dissipated. The field had about a foot of snow on it, but because of the rain, I quickly realized that I was essentially walking into a very wet field. I ended up with a boot full of water within 30 seconds after managing to stay dry all morning.
It couldn’t have been a better scene if we had planned it. The atmosphere created because of the weather was amazing!
Conclusion
Sometimes, the best things happen when they’re not planned. And sometimes you have to remind the person you’re working with that they have to be in a different state in a few hours because you get so caught up in shooting! Nothing like losing track of time when working with a friend.
