Forget going to any annual parties with just a plain old ugly Christmas sweater this Holiday season! Outdo everyone with added ugly accessories: an ornament-headband, earrings, and necklace!
That’s right, I just one-upped the ugly tradition.
I think there is a part in everyone that really enjoys the tradition of ugly sweater contests. It’s a chance to be ridiculous and silly and know that everyone else is going to do the same. Instead of going out and purchasing an ugly sweater, I decided to save my money and make my own using an old sweater that doesn’t fit quite right.
Ugly Christmas Tree Sweater
For my ugly sweater, since it was already green, I decided to make a Christmas tree. I outlined it with green ribbon, and added ornaments, curled ribbon, and a few bows made out of string. I used a large gold ornament and gold ribbon as a my tree topper. Oh, and I also added one crystal ornament on a ribbon to each shoulder, because bling.
Ugly Accessories
As I mentioned before, I couldn’t just make an ugly sweater- I had to take this to the next level. I purchased a headband from the dollar store (something I don’t actually own, and therefore, could not use from my own closet) and hot glued ornaments and ribbons to it.
I’m actually very proud of how it turned out. I went into this idea thinking it was going to look amazingly ridiculous, but it doesn’t look half bad. I may wear this to my work party! For some bonus shine, I strung extra ornaments I had leftover onto a necklace chain, and through some hoop earrings. Even just wearing those accessories is a fun way to liven up any outfit for a Holiday themed party, or just for giggles.
Furthermore, I added bling to my makeup. I found some false eyelashes with glitter on them and decided to give them a try for this sparkly look. It turned out really nicely. Seeing as I’m not usually one for glitter or sparkly makeup in general, I was pleasantly surprised by how these pulled the makeup together with the rest of the outfit. Self-five!
Conclusion
In conclusion, I’m pretty happy with how all of this “Ugly Christmas Outfit and Accessory items” turned out. And I fit in with the presents!
Needless to say, what started out as a goofy idea turned out to be a lot of fun, and I’m going to try to wear this ensemble to one of the get togethers I attend this month.
