Curiouser and Curiouser…
Forget “Trick or Treat” – this post is all treat!
That’s because this is an extra special post! It not only involves some delicious recipes, sweet pics, and fun costumes, but I had the privilege of collaborating with Lauren, creator of the blog “Playing Martha” to create all of it! She has some awesome recipe ideas, so make sure to visit her site and check them out for yourself!
For our Halloween get together, we made “Halloweenies (or Mummy Dogs)”, “Devilish Deviled Eggs”, and “Sinister Guacamole”.
We also concocted a few “Toxic Wasted”s, which are perfect for a Halloween party with their eerie neon green color, and fruity taste. They consist of Vodka, Blue Curacao, Melon Liquor, orange juice, and lemon-lime soda. Another easy to make, delicious to drink item for your recipe book!
The quickest, easiest snack to make was probably the Mummy Dogs. Just wrap strips of croissant dough every-witch-way (Halloween pun…get it?) around the hot dog, toss them in the oven for 20 mins, and add some ketchup or mustard “eyes” when they come out. The deviled eggs took longest due to the peeling factor. We ended up having so much filling leftover when all was said and done, I filled the extra roll of croissants and made Deviled Croissants. Not quite as good as either of the original snacks, but they weren’t terrible. waste not want not and all that.
After we gorged on snacks and drinks and cookies, it was time to play dress up – because why not?!
Through the looking glass
Seeing as we were having a very merry Halloween Party, I felt it only seemed fitting to spend the day as Alice and the Red Queen.
You may even recognize our Alice’s blue dress…
When we went outside, a random cat came running over from the neighbor’s yard. We immediately thought “A Cheshire cat! Perfect!”. He was incredibly friendly and seemed to enjoy everyone petting him.
Fun was had by all (cat included) and Lauren was a great sport.
My red Queen costume turned out pretty well too- so well in fact, that this costume is in the top three running for my Halloween costume this year.
I even went as far as painting a red heart on my thumbnails! For the more noticeable items however, I bought the headband and created the collar myself. I also managed to NOT have a Pinterest Fail with this DIY attempt! I’m beyond ecstatic with how everything turned out. And last but not least, this costume wouldn’t have felt complete for me without a little creepy factor. Using my new red contacts seemed like a perfect choice to pull the color scheme together!
We hope you enjoyed this collaboration! Make sure to check out Lauren’s blog, and stay tuned for my last Halloween Costume this week.
