At the beginning of August, I had the opportunity to work with some of the girls from Millyard Studios in Manchester NH.
They specialize in Engagement, Wedding, and Boudoir shoots for their clients. I also met Rosa of “Rosangela Makeup Artist” who transformed my hair and makeup into something worthy of the bridal boudoir style we were shooting!
Reminiscing
I felt immediately at ease when I walked into their studio. Within no time I felt like I was catching up with old friends. What may have helped was learning my photographers, Jodi, and Theresa, both went to the same college as me! They graduated shortly before I started. Still, it was amazing to meet two individuals who had not only heard of my tiny school before it closed down, but attended it as well. Cue “It’s a small world after all” music here.
A sense of humor is key
One of the funniest moments to look back at from the day was when I met Theresa. I was testing poses while in my lingerie for our first set. After modeling for 5 years, meeting people while in your underwear is something you don’t even blink an eyelash at. Similarly is having someone you just met help you adjust your garter belt, bra strap, etc. Both of these happened within the first two minutes of our shaking hands. We both had a good laugh about the entire thing when I brought up I should start greeting people with “Nice to meet you! …all of you!”.
The girls were friendly but professional, and quick to adjust things as needed for the perfect shot. They even had a “faux engagement ring” for me to wear during the shoot. A downside of having eerily thin fingers, however, is that the ring kept falling off my finger. Eventually, we just taped in place.
Pros and Cons
The entire experience was wonderful, especially with it being a 90+ degree day outside and the studio having AC. Pro tip: it’s easier to throw a sweater on than it is to take more clothes off – especially when you’re already in your underwear. Therefore in a studio shoot, AC is the model’s best friend!
The only downside of the day? I was having so much fun, I forgot about the meter needing to be fed!
