Miss her, kiss her, love her…
I’ve always wanted to do this costume, but seeing as I don’t have the typical Poison Ivy figure, I never tried. Until now! Call it a “modernized version”, call it a more “realistic version”, but whatever you want to call it, it’s still a Poison Ivy Costume.
Originally, I made this outfit for an event at work- Super Hero Day. However, I felt the shorts were still a bit too short, even with leggings under them. So I decided to show it off here and help inspire anyone who wants to create a Poison Ivy costume from clothes they already own!
I had a green button up shirt already, and black shorts, but I did pick up some leggings in the same green as the shirt. I added the black vest over the shirt as it’s rather large on me, and didn’t want to be swimming in my clothes for this look.
Another fun touch I added was a string of Ivy Leaves from the craft store. I wrapped them into a sort of headpiece, but you can always pin them around you to add some drama to your outfit.
…Wrong move you’re dead…
The makeup consisted of just a few colors: yellow, light green, mid green, dark green, and black.
- I started with yellow eyeshadow on the inner corners of the eye and under my brow bone.
- Next, I blended the light green shadow from the outer to mid eyelid and in the crease. Add the dark green eyeliner on the outer part of the eyelid into the crease for some added drama.
- I also lined my top lid all the way to the inner corner, and to the bottom, outer half of my waterline.
- Line the inner half of the bottom waterline with the mid green eyeliner, and move on to your black eyeliner. I created a cat eye with the black liner on the top lid. For a dramatic look, I extended it toward the ends of my brows.
- Add some mascara, and the eyes are done!
- I used the mid green eyeliner to fill in my brows, adding highlights with yellow eyeshadow.
- For my lips, I outlined them with my dark green eyeliner, filled them with my mid green eyeliner, and added some highlight in the center of my bottom lip with yellow eyeshadow.
- Tip: add some clear lipgloss or vaseline to the lips if you want them to have some sheen.
- For the leaves, I used both green eyeliners again, along with the yellow shadow. And I added white and black eyeliner for highlights and shadows respectively. There was no particular design scheme, I just tried to make vine-looking-greenery that didn’t appear to blob-like.
- I attached one vine to the outer corner of my eye and wrapped it around my eyebrow, onto my forehead. The other vine traveled from the opposite eye, across my cheekbone and down onto my jaw line. I used a small makeup brush to create the leave shapes. Additionally, filling them in with an angled brush was less messy than trying to do it all with the eyeliner. It also allows you build up a color with layers. If you want certain leaves to be lighter or darker depending on their placement, I suggest layering. Top it all off with your Ivy Headdress, and you’re done!
And lastly, even though you’re a super villain, be careful that your Ivy doesn’t lull you into complacency. You never know when it will turn on you!
