Continuing with the theme of “cute costumes”, I thought the cute but sassy Tinker Bell would be fun to portray. She may not speak, but she certainly knows how to express herself, the perfect mix for a photoshoot!
Faith, Trust, and Pixie Dust
My costume was inspired by the classic Disney character, but with a “woodland” style. I chose a green strapless dress with brown lacing and green and brown wings. The wings were the hardest part to fit with the costume. Tink’s wings are a very specific shape, but it was near impossible to find something fitting to my size for limited funds. I ended up finding a pair of wings at the thrift store and modifying them to fit on the dress. The pieces went surprisingly well together. I even painted a pair of shoes to match the accents of the dress I wore!
Instead of the classic top bun, I went with my own grown out pixie cut for the shoot. I also chose a natural makeup palette and no jewelry.
This shoot was another studio setup. I tried quite a few poses, including “flying” by balancing atop some stools on my stomach. But as you’ll notice, none of those shots made it in. It’s much more difficult to balance and look graceful than I imagined. I also spent more time editing these images than any others so far. Tinker Bell feels much more believable when placed in her natural environment with some pixie dust!
Even though there were a few times I felt like giving up on this costume, I’m glad I pushed through. It challenged me to think outside of my comfort zone and to just have fun with it!
And Fairies are all about fun – or is it mischief?
