Maxi-mum Dressage
We’ve talked about some T-shirt outfits and ideas for sprucing up your Little Black Dress on the blog this past year. But what about that classic Spring-Summer staple, the maxi dress?
These days Maxi dresses can range from casual beach-wear to upscale wedding attire. If you start with something in the mid range, it can be easy to dress up or down depending on the setting.
Casual
A favorite look for me when trying to dress something down is a pair of flats or sneakers and a jean jacket. If your dress has a print or more than one color in it, try matching them with your accessories. My floral maxi has a variety of pinks, purples, and blues making it easy to pair my blue vans and denim jacket with it for a casual look.
Business
Much like my previous outfit posts, I find a solid blazer can make (almost) anything work-ready. My go-to business accessories are the above mentioned blazer, a good pair of heels, and some simple but elegant jewelry. Oh, and a low chignon if you want to make it really classy!
Fashion Forward
I’ll admit, I felt pretty runway-ready in this take on a high-fashion maxi dress. It took a bit of pinning to create a sort of high-low skirt out of the dress but once that was paired with shorts and thigh-high boots, it looked pretty bad-ass.
Boho
Especially popular in the summer are those warm Boho vibes. An oversize hat with feather accent tied together well with my feather earrings. And further tying it all together was choosing earrings in the same neutral shade as my boots and purse. Good vibes only, man.
Bold Color
If your dress already has a print or some fairly bold colors on it, opt for a combination of similar and contrasting colors. I found pairing my burgundy blouse and yellow purse together worked well. The variety of colors in my floral maxi dress really popped against those two bold solids.
Cozy
Last but never least, when I want something cozy I always search for an oversized sweater. Why not take the same idea and combine it with your maxi dress, some warm leggings, and a nice pair of boots? It’s a great way to continue using dresses throughout the entire year – especially for those of us from New England!
