A classic challenge
A few years ago, I started unintentionally collecting graphic tees. I ended up with a variety of shirts of various colors, designs, and texts with (what felt like) no appropriate time to wear them.
Or so I thought.
While my go-to is typically a t-shirt and jeans, it doesn’t always fit the style of your day, or how you’re feeling. So for anyone else who struggles with ways to wear their graphic-tees, I’ve created a few visual examples depending on your mood.
Casual
First, let’s talk about the casual look. As I said, a t-shirt and jeans is my go to, but if you’re looking to jazz it up a bit, a pair of boots and cabbie hat make for a simple style. I also threw on a flannel shirt for a pop of color.
My t-shirt is from the website “Redbubble“, which allows artists to share their designs on various products that anyone can purchase. For those who don’t follow video games, “Gwent” is a card game played within the game Witcher 3, and both the card game and video game are personal favorites of mine.
Business (Casual Friday)
I assume most workplaces aren’t keen on t-shirts no matter how they’re worn. So I’m calling this look the “Casual Friday” of business-wear. Personally, I think any outfit (though maybe hold off on that prom dress) can become business appropriate with the addition of a good blazer. So that’s what I did here! Add a pair of ankle boots, some statement jewelry, and chic clutch and you’re ready for whatever work gets handed your way!
This “light armor 1” t-shirt is another Redbubble original, as well as a second shout-out to Witcher 3. It references the weapon and armor screen in the game, which describes each article in your collection and the level/attributes the piece has as well as how much it’s worth.
Fashion Forward
Who says you can’t be comfortable and fashion forward at the same time? Not me! I decided to combine my hipster pumpkin tee with a high waist pencil skirt and ankle boots for a fashionable fall inspired style. The pop of color is a nice balance against all black accessories. And what’s more fashionable than a pair of sunglasses inside?
This fun tee was a local thrift store find, but the brand is “L.O.L. Vintage” for those on the search for similar tops!
Boho
For those days when you feel those free spirit vibes, pairing a tee with a printed maxi skirt and neutral headscarf is an easy combo. Even better if you have matching neutral boots and a satchel purse!
Another Redbubble buy, this tee combines my love of coffee and quotable TV shows with the following Gilmore Girl’s phrase, “I can’t stop drinking the coffee, I stop drinking the coffee and I stop doing the standing and the walking and the words-putting-into-sentence-doing.”
Bold Color
Personally, I find it challenging to combine bold colors or patterns in my outfits. But when I realized my favorite Playstation graphic tank had the same teal in its design as a pair of cutoffs I bought for work, I knew they’d make a great combo. And to top it off, the cut-off floral kimono I’ve had sitting in my closet included multiple colors from the design! I then realized you can’t go this bold with an outfit and not pair it with a bold heel and hairstyle!
This playstation top was actually a Target special from the pajama section and came with a pair of matching shorts which were a little too small and found a new home with a (smaller) friend. Now that I think about it, does this count as wearing my pj’s in public?
Cozy
Last but not least, when I think T-shirts, I think comfort. So why not dedicate an outfit to that feeling? A pair of joggers, long sleeve bolero, and ski cap made this such a cozy style, I decided to keep it on all day!
Another thrift store find, this “New York City” crop unfortunately no longer has a tag in it. But slouchy tops seem to be everywhere right now – all you need is a pair of scissors to make your very own crop top!
Which was your favorite T-shirt outfit? Do you have a go-to look to spice things up, or do you prefer to let your graphic-tee speak for itself?
