Breakfast At Tiffany’s

“A girl can’t read that sort of thing without her lipstick.”

Today’s costume idea is a classic costume, inspired by a classic movie, “Breakfast At Tiffany’s”.

The beautiful and very talented Audrey Hepburn was the main inspiration for today’s post. I’ve wanted to try a Holly Golightly look for a while now. So when one of my viewers suggested it, I knew this was a perfect time! This is my interpretation, because yes, I am aware it’s not the exact same look. I think that adds a bit more dimension though, making it your own by adding personal touches. For example, I don’t have the mass of pearls, tiara or cigarette holder that she sports in this costume. What I do have, are two strings of costume pearls, an ornate butterfly hair comb, and a wooden pipe. Same ideas, different items.

I looked up some tutorials for the hair and basically winged it. Lesson learned from this however: if you want your bouffant to look like a bouffant, don’t just tease it. Hairspray the life out of that sucker.

It was pretty simple once I figured out how I wanted it to look:

• Leave two section in the front down, separate from your temples back/up, and gather top portion for teasing.
• Regret all the backcombing as your fingers get tangled.
• Untangle hairspray coated fingers from hair.
• Pin your newly teased bouffant into the height/shape you desire.
• Pin those two pieces of hair back around the same area you pinned your bouffant.
• Gather the rest of your hair and twist up/wrap/pin/pin/pin.
• This is where other people did a French twist -I don’t quite know what I did, but it was out of the way. That and it didn’t look terrible so I let it stay.
• Add your comb, tiara, or whatever accessory you’re using for some added hair sparkle.

Hair DONE!

The makeup was much simpler:

• Do your usual clean face, brushed hair-neither of which was done in that first picture.
• foundation thing- fill out your brows a bit if they are on the thin side like mine.
• Line your top lid with a black liquid or gel eyeliner. Add a little flick that extends a smidge, not a smudge, past your lid.
• Lay on the mascara.
• Add a pink gloss for a little color and shine
• And a touch of blush to your cheeks.

Ta-da! Look at how classy you are! The nice thing about this look is you can use either a long or short black dress for it. I went with long to emulate the promo image for the movie, but there are other images where it is closer to cocktail length. It’s all up to you!
